Ministry of the Presidency Jackson Mthembu has called for an action plan following Auditor General Kimi Makwetu’s harrowing report.
In June, Makwetu’s report revealed that just 18 out of 257 municipalities received clean audits. Now, Mthembu is eager to see action taken against habitual offenders.
"We can't just continue condemning and condemning, we should have an action plan," he told journalists after a cabinet meeting on Thursday.
"Cabinet said heads must roll for those who continue to spend fruitlessly, spend wastefully and spend irregularly. Cabinet has said that the national minister working with relevant municipalities must find a way of curbing these maladministration tendencies in our system of local government."
