The death count from a Boko Haram attack at a funeral in Nigeria has reached 65, AFP confirmed.
The attack took place near the regional capital of Maiduguri in northeast Nigeria. Local government chairman Muhammaed Bulama confirmed that 23 people were killed at a funeral gathering on Saturday. When the mourners gave chase, the terrorists gunned down another 42 victims.
Bulama added that the attack was likely in retaliation to the killing of 11 Boko Haram members by locals when they attempted to attack a village.
The jihadists have waged war on the region for over ten years, killing an estimated 27 000 people.
