President Cyril Ramaphosa was in Vryburg in North West Province where he gave a speech for Women’s Day on Friday.
Ramaphosa spoke of the inspiration he felt when speaking to members of the original 1956 march, when 20 000 women marched on the Union Buildings to protest to pass laws under the aparthied government.
He reminded the Vryburg crowd of the protest song that echoed through the gathering that day...Wathint'Abafazi Wathint'imbokodo! (Now you have touched the women, you have struck a rock.)
