The Delft community policing forum claimed that there is an urgent need for CCTV cameras in the area.

Delft had the highest weekend murder rate in Cape Town after five people were killed between Friday and Sunday.

The forum’s Charles George said that despite the deployment of the military, crime in the area has been increasing.

George said that there are many households in the area that agree that these cameras should be installed.

"There’s no appetite from the government to do this. There are a lot of excuses and red tape. We have schools where these cameras can be installed.”
