Police have launched a manhunt after the body of a 13-year-old girl was found in Mpumalanga.
According to reports, the girl disappeared after she left her home in Malema section, Emzinoni township, to go to the shop for a neighbour on Sunday morning. She did not return.
Later that day, her parents and members of the community searched for her. After they failed to find her, they reported her disappearance to the police.
Her body was found near her home by a passer-by on Monday. It is believed that she had been raped.
Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said that "an intense investigation on the matter in currently underway".
"Anyone with information regarding this matter is requested to contact Warrant Officer Shibe Mathabe at 082 462 2836."
No arrests have yet been made.
