A new US bill will allow teachers in Florida to carry firearms to school.

This decision follows the mass shooting at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in February 2018. Sixteen pupils and teachers were killed in the shooting.

CNN reported that Florida governor Ron DeSantis signed the bill in May.

So far, 39 out of Florida's 67 countries are participating in the program.

As of October 1, some teachers will be allowed to carry a gun to work as a form of self defence.

Teachers will carry the firearms under the Guardian Program. The Guardian Program was started following the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in 2018.

According to the Florida Department of Education, teachers will undergo psychological and drug screenings and complete at least 144 hours of training.
